Roosters vs Bulldogs Preview by Dean McHugh

19 June, 2024

On paper, this is the closest matchup of the weekend as the fifth-placed Roosters take on the sixth-placed Bulldogs. They both also come into this one on 18 points, so on the surface, there isn’t much to separate these two. So why do the bookmakers make the Roosters short-priced favourites?

Well, there is no doubting the Roosters have a stronger team on paper, and they have also won the last four meetings between these two in Sydney. However, given their inconsistencies over the past five weeks, I’m struggling to answer that question with any confidence.

The Bulldogs have won their last three in a row, and despite it being   against weaker opposition they come into this one in decent form. Therefore, I cannot take the Roosters at such short odds. The smarter money is for them to be leading at halftime, which they have done in their previous seven matches. Despite the Bulldogs winning their last three, they trailed at halftime in two of those.
