RANDWICK PREVIEW with Chris Scholtz – June 22nd

21 June, 2024

Selections and best bets from Chris Scholtz for the Randwick meeting on June 22nd. Plus a look at the Ipswich Cup meeting and Trial Watch and Blackbook Reports.

RANDWICK June 22 TRACK: Soft 6 (8am June 21); RAIL: Out 3m entire

Best Bets

RACE 4 (13) IT’S A WONDER: Lightly raced Dundeel filly has been screaming to get over more ground and will get her chance here under the limit weight. Placed in a strong Guineas race at the Wagga carnival and was then doing her best work through the line when a closing fourth in similar company over 1600m at this course two weeks ago on a heavy surface. She was beaten less than a length last time and meets all those rivals on better terms.

RACE 5 (4) NEED SOME LUCK: This half brother to Chautauqua meets a boom maiden winner but placing more trust in his proven benchmark form coming from a better gate. Tactics gave him little chance when he resumed at Scone and showed the benefit with a dominant Canterbury win in this class when he was very strong at the end of 1250m. Confident he holds more scope for improvement

RACE 6 (13) AMBERITE: Former Kiwi has quickly made an impression in his first two Melbourne starts for a Flemington win over 1800m and a game Caulfield second over 2000m. Races on pace and rates to win off those performances as he is well placed in this grade with the bonus booking of James McDonald.

Why They Can Win…..

RACE 1: (15) ALL ASTERN – Tough run when resuming at Albury. Lightly raced improver will appreciate big drop in weight.

RACE 2: (9) ASSOCIATE – Has been looking for this trip. Nicely placed with the claim.

RACE 3: (14) PURE HYDROGEN – Has been working up to this. Sure to appreciate better track conditions.

RACE 7: (10) DIPSY DOODLE – Best to come from a talented prospect. Impressive trials have her primed.

RACE 8: (12) DIAMOND DIESEL – Went to a new peak winning over this course last time. Can go on with it with 6.5kg less.

RACE 9: (11) CONTEMPORARY – Classy win first-up under big weight. Lovely tick over trial has him in the right form.

RACE 10: (13) WEST OF AFRICA – Strong Warwick Farm was well anticipated. Well to go on with it.

IPSWICH June 22 Track: Soft 5; Rail: Out 0.5m entire - Best Bets

RACE 4: (9) ROCKRIBBED – Top stable has him primed to build on excellent fresh record off a classy trial win. Can take advantage of favourable draw.

RACE 6: (2) HEDGED – Brings the best form. Favoured by the set weights conditions and he’s been looking for this distance.

For Value

RACE 7: (10) REGAL LION – Taking this G1 placegetter on trust but that applies to all runners in this substandard feature. He won this race less year with more weight and his more recent Albury Cup second behind Fawkner Park is good enough for this.

RACE 9: (13) TYPHOON TAAVI – Her excellent winning record features some fast wins over this distance. Set for this after a recent trial and will take running down if she steals a break on the turn.

TRIAL POINTERS

WARWICK FARM June 17: A strong piece of work from progressive 4YO CONTEMPORARY to finish third in his fast 789m heat (46.77; 33.86) in his first trial since se won at the Hawkesbury Cup meeting six weeks ago. He’s already the winner of four races and the manner of his work to finish off under a strong hold has him primed to add to that record

ROSEHILL June 11:  PINK SHALALA was a narrow winner of a strong 3YO heat (55.46; 35.29) beating previously noted DIPSY DOODLE in a three way finish. The reliable open company performer TAMERLANE dictated his 1030m heat (63.12; 35.52) from the front.

HAWKESBURY June 1: Previously noted trial runners to again show good form included the heat winners FORTUNE and SNEAKY PAIGE.

GOSFORD May 27: Talented Lonhro filly DIPSY DOODLE made quite an impression in her first trial since February. Sat outside the leader under a big hold from Ashley Morgan and never came off the bit to take the upper hand over the last 100m and win with lengths in reserve in fast time (47.82; 33.58). Appeals as the type who will blossom next season as a 4YO.

WARWICK FARM May 21: Maidens with good prospects include ECLAIR VITALITY. Looked sharp winning one of the fastest short course heats of the morning (809m – 47.38; 33.45).

RANDWICK May 16: –trained heat winner to make an impression was the smart mare ALICIA ROMA. She has missed a place only three times in 13 starts and her easy win in her 737m heat (43.85; 33.61) A Snowden indicates she is ready to rebound from a Victorian campaign late last year.

WARWICK FARM May 7:  The fastest 900m heat (54.45; 34.93) featured nice work from the experienced winner GITALONG

HAWKESBURY March 11: WOLLOMBI took the eye steaming home from last for third in her fast 1000m heat (58.26; 32.53). Has since had a stable change to Brisbane.
