The final place in the 2024 Preliminary Finals is on the line this Saturday night, when GWS take on the Brisbane Lions at Engie Stadium. GWS missed a golden opportunity to book their place in the penultimate week of the season, squandering a 28 point lead to go down against local rivals Sydney in last Saturday’s Qualifying Final. The Giants were fantastic for three quarters until the Swans piled on a late onslaught, kicking six goals to two in the final term – including the last three goals – to win by six points. Adam Kingsley’s side now have to go the long way to return to the big dance, but will host a Brisbane side they have defeated twice this season in Canberra (earlier this year) and at the Gabba only last month. The Lions advanced to the semi finals with a comprehensive 28 point win over Carlton at home, where they essentially put the result beyond doubt in the first-half courtesy of scoring the first 60 points of the match before surviving a spirited fightback from the Blues in the second-half. Brisbane will be sweating on the fitness of key defender Jack Payne (knee), after he failed to finish the match against the Blues in his first game since Round 18. Should he not get up for Saturday’s game, his replacement could be Darragh Joyce after the Irishman was trusted with filling his role during his absence in the latter stages of the season. Meanwhile, the Giants will be hoping to welcome back Toby Bedford (calf) after missing the last two weeks.

TIP: GWS by 20 points, Tom Green to have 25+ disposals
